Everyday Heros

Are you familiar with Bass Strait? That bit of ocean dividing Tasmania from the rest of the mainland?

You know - they have that little yacht race every year, the Sydney to Hobart?

It's really dangerous because the weather sometimes looks like it's from that movie Perfect Storm? (Excuse the poor picture quality..what? Where you too busy looking for George Cloony? Me too.)

Oh, OK! I'm exaggerating! Sometimes it gets a little squally!

No, that's bullshit. People have actually died sailing across the Bass Strait. I mean absolutely no disrespect. It is a very dangerous bit of ocean. Which is why I am absolutely in AWE of these guys.

These everyday hero's are paddling over the Bass Strait in KAYAKS. They leave Port Welshpool, VIC on the 14th March, & arrive at Musselroe Bay, TAS, on the 24th March, 10 days later.

This is the route they will be taking.

They are hoping to raise over $25,000 for Bravehearts & you can help them by going here or here to donate. Any donation over $2 is tax deductible. It is a hugely worthy cause, & rest easy, no money is going to be wasted on shark repellent for this brave band of heroes!

Bravehearts is Australia’s only children’s charity holistically dedicated to the issue of child sexual assault. We offer comprehensive counselling and education for children and young people plus parental support for non-offending family members along with advocacy for adult survivors. Bravehearts also invests in extensive training and research developing strategies better able to combat the complex issues associated with child sexual assault.

Founded in 1997 by Executive Director Hetty Johnston, Bravehearts aims to forge a “movement for change” in how paedophilia is dealt with by the criminal justice sector, government and the community at large and to provide survivors with a voice.
